What is (a)synchronous learning?

The delivery of content and information is a basic objective for all learning systems, whether through live tutoring or through self-paced study. With the ability to easily capture, edit, manage and re-use the learner- and business task-specific content, organisations can ensure the success of a blended e-learning approach.

Synchronous learning allows organisations to bring together large groups of people in virtual online classrooms and to interact and learn simultaniously. This way of dissemination reduces dramatically travel, facilities, telecommunications and security expenditures.

Asynchronous learning enables learners to download standards compliant learning objects to their mobile computers (laptop, tablet PC, PDA) at the time that they are connected to the internet. Once disconnected, the learner can access the learning objects at any given time. The next time the learner can get connected to the internet, his or her activities and progress are automatically transferred back to and recorded in the online system.
